What’s good OTA

Damn it feels great to be back at it teaching you guys what you want to learn.

This past weekend was a great time. I went to Miami with Elliott, Ryan, and Danny for Jason Capitals Badass Mentor retreat.

We went there to show some love and to meet so many awesome guys that know what it means to invest in themselves.

It inspired me and right now I’m beyond grind mode.

I’ve been up since 5 am working on all the OTA projects I have in the bag. I want to be able to present everything to you guys faster than what I thought I was capable of.

For now, I want to explain a topic that I’ve gotten multiple times in the comment section.

How Do I Train for Strength and Speed

There are 2 ways I usually approach speed training when an athlete comes to me with this exact goal.

Method 1:

I tend to use method one with athletes that are at an elite level.

This is when we have 2 sessions in one day. The first workout will be purely concentrated on speed and the other session is purely strength training.

Again this method is usually better for an elite athlete that gets paid to train and compete.

Now for everyone else that isn’t at an elite level yet and have a life outside of the gym, I like to use method two.

Method 2:

Here I like to break down speed and strength training into two 30-45 minute sessions to be done right after each other.

I like to perform the speed section of our workouts right after our warm up.

This way when we do perform speed exercises we are focusing on quality over quantity. We really want to concentrate on performing the speed exercises as explosively and powerfully as possible.
