#9 – Low Squat Jump to Explosion

The first time I came across this exercise was from Adam Archuleta’s strength coach. This guy was the real deal and greatly impacted my athleticism when I was digesting his information on training athletes.

He played Safety as a walkon for Arizona State, and later became a 1st round pick for the sole reason of having posted one of the best combines ever. His performance was so crazy that some claim that they clocked him at sub 4.2 seconds on his 40 yard dash.

Anyways, the reason the low squat foot jump is a staple in my tool box is because it puts the posterior chain (glutes and hamstrings) on stretch and then calls upon them to absorb force by simply performing mini hops through the ankles and feet.

After the athlete performs a few mini hops I typically want them to generate as much force as possible by propelling themselves in the air and sticking the landing in a 90 degree position absorbing even more force.

Anytime I have an athlete absorb force I am teaching them to absorb energy that they can later use to produce a higher vertical.

That simple fact is the reason why Low Squat Jumps to Explosion is #9 on my Top 10 list of best Vertical Jump exercises.
