Yo. Yo.

What’s going on OTA Nation,

Kicking today’s ass?

I know you are. You wouldn’t be Overtime if you weren’t

Today I wanted to explain a topic that I get questions for every single day.

How can I prevent my hammies from tearing?

Such a popular questions with such a simple solution, it’s crazy to me that more athletes don’t know how to prevent this from happening.

But have no fear, today I have the answer to your problem.

Now first let me explain why most athletes tear their hammies.

Flawed Mechanics.

Essentially what’s happening is, as you’re performing your cycle during the sprint, you have your hip flexed and your hamstring contracted. As you move to the next step in your sprint, you’re actually forcing the hamstring (that’s contracted) to release and the usual outcome is tearing it.

The solution?

Teaching the athlete how to properly cycle their legs during the sprint.

One simple drill I typically use to overcome this flawed mechanical movement is performing B Skips.

I use this exercise to teach the body, mechanically, to release the hamstring as we go into our cycle rotation.

It’s a little difficult to explain exactly what I mean using words, so watch the video below to get a full understanding on how to never tear your hamstrings again.
